We are travelling to Kalamazoo College during early May and would like some good advice on nearby K-zoo
hotels and fun restaurants. Our daughter is looking at K-zoo as a prospective student.
Advice on reasonable place to stay near Kalamazoo college
The closest hotel to Kalamazoo College is the Comfort Inn Downtown (comfortinn.com/hotel-kalamazoo-michigan-MI255). The hotel does not have enough on-site, off-street parking for all of the rooms, though, so there are times when guests have had to park on the surrounding streets or in a lot across a fairly major street from the hotel. If that would be a concern for you, some other nearby (but more expensive) options are the Radisson Plaza (http://www.radisson.com/kalamazoomi) or the Henderson Castle (http://www.hendersoncastle.com).
A few miles away, but more reasonably-priced and still an easy drive from Kalamazoo College, are Staybridge Suites (www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/sb/1/en/hotel/azosb), Holiday Inn West (http://www.holidayinnkz.com) or Baymont Inn %26amp; Suites (baymontinns.com/Baymont/…).
I haven’t stayed at any of these hotels, so I can’t vouch for their service and condition, but they all look fine from the outside.
Some of the unique restaurants in the downtown area (which is very close to Kalamazoo College) are the Wild Bull (http://www.wildbull.biz), The Union (http://millenniumrestaurants.com/union.php), Bimbo%26#39;s Pizza (http://www.bimbospizza.com/index.html), Olde Peninsula Brew Pub (http://www.oldepen.com), Cosmo%26#39;s Cucina (http://www.cosmoscucina.com), Burdick%26#39;s (http://www.oldburdicks.com), Mangia Mangia (http://www.mangiamangia-kazoo.com), Martini%26#39;s Pizza (http://www.martinispizza.net) and Food Dance (http://www.fooddance.net/pages_/home.cfm).
Good non-chain restaurants close to the hotels away from the downtown area include B%26#39;Wiched Deli (http://www.bwicheddeli.com/index.html), Rykse%26#39;s (http://www.rykses.com), Bilbo%26#39;s Pizza (http://www.bilbospizza.com), McGinnis Landing (mcginnislandingrestaurant.com/default.aspx) and La Pinata (which doesn’t have a web site but is a good Mexican restaurant located at 475 North Drake Road).
Enjoy your trip to Kalamazoo!

Advice on reasonable place to stay near Kalamazoo college
The Staybridge is a good choice. In addition to the rooms being a bit larger, they offer complimentary breakfast.
I stayed at the Holiday Inn two times. Though the visits were seven years apart, it was being remodeled both times. I hope they were separate projects and not one drawn-out construction.
The rooms facing the highway are a little noisy, but it wasn%26#39;t terrible. The biggest advantage was that it has an on-site restaurant.
Hi I%26#39;m a WMU alum and loved my time in Kzoo. Tonya has provided you with some great info.
Restaurant wise I%26#39;d add Ole Peninsula, breakfast at Maggies, and Main Street Pub.
Enjoy K-zoo it is a great city. Not too big but yet not too small.
If you want to be right downtown...Radission is a great choice...however VERY expensive. I stayed there and the rooms are great. They also have good places to eat right inside.
Staybridge Suites is on Stadium Drive and right near campus. I havent stayed there, but Staybridge Suites are very nice. Its not far from downtown, but since it is close to campus, there are a lot of local bars nearby.
I just graduated from WMU last April with my Teaching Degree. If you need any info on WMU let me know! =)
