Ideas for stops along the way?

Are there any good activities half-way between Toledo and Mackinac? We%26#39;re not sure if we want to drive the whole way or stop 1/2 way and take our time.

Ideas for stops along the way?

My family loves Hartwick Pines State Park.(off of I-75 at exit 259). If you are coming on a weekend they frequently have re-enactors showing what life was like in Michigan 150 years ago.

Are you considering staying over night or just stopping to see something and stretch your legs? It really isn%26#39;t necessary to spend the night. It%26#39;s a long but managable drive to Mackinaw City from Toledo.

Probably spend the night. We%26#39;d rather stop somewhere fun and take our time rather than drive the whole way.

If you plan to spend the night, how about Frankenmuth? It is just north of Flint with a wonderful Bavarian atmosphere with famous restaurants (at least to Michiganders) and shops. Don%26#39;t miss Bronners, a massive . Lots of hotels available as well. Further north there is Gaylord, again with a Bavarian feel. Finally, less than an hour south of Mackinaw City is Indian River. Beautiful inland lakes and rivers.... Moms

Just a bit over 300 miles.

About 5 hours of comfortable driving.

Do it all in one day and do more when you get North. : )

The island is your destination. Get there as quickly as you can so that you can maximize your time there.

Like others stated Toledo is little over 5 hours from Mackinac. Frankenmuth is a little over 2 hours.

It is a neat little German type town. Lots of German shops, places to buy gifts, and to eat. The most popular are the Chicken places. Frankenmuth is famous for its chicken (can be a little pricy) People come from all over for the chicken. You will see signs for Bronners and the chicken, on I-75 (I have heard that the signs go as far south as Flordia). The chicken restuarants (and some stores) they are dress in german dress.

Lots of different shops, down main street.

My daughter and I spent a few nights up in Frankemuth last month and we stayed at the Drury%26#39;s Inn--I highly recommended it (very clean, free breakfast, nightly cocktails %26amp; snacks)--It%26#39;s kinda of nice in the lobby is popcorn, and a pop (like you see @ McDonalds)--all free.

Also, right when you get off the freeway is a outlet mall (Birch Run)--you might find some good deals at.

Try checking out Frankemuth, online. Or just ask---.

You can even just make it a couple hour stopover.

I 2nd Frankenmuth, if that would be your kind of stop with the things Mom listed as activities.

If not, and you do drive straight thru, then do stop at Hartwick Pines for a good leg stretch. A wonderful interpretive center of MI history and nature. Great picnic spot.

If you would be interested, you could deter onto US 23 and drive along Lake Huron to Mackinaw City/Island. It would be longer, but you could spend the night in Tawas, if you just want a cute little town to relax, maybe swim in the lake.
