Hotel St. Regis? Thoughts???

I%26#39;m considering booking here for Friday night%26#39;s game. My main questions are.

How far of a walk to Comerica Park is this or do you need to take a cab?

Is this hotel nice, moderate, or a dump?

Is it in a safe area?

Any other info would be great. Thanks!

Hotel St. Regis? Thoughts???

Two things should give you pause before booking the St Regis, Jamerican. It%26#39;s in the New Center area of downtown, and it%26#39;s kind of isolated there. No real vibrant retail or nightlife. And it IS a cab ride away, not within walking distance of COPA.

Hotel St. Regis? Thoughts???

Thanks. After looking at an online map I%26#39;m pretty sure I know where it is now. I think there is an oyster bar near there that I%26#39;ve been meaning to check out but you%26#39;re right it is not walkable to the stadium district and other than that oyster bar I haven%26#39;t seen much else in terms of nightlife.

I work near here, and I would not be out in this neighborhood at night. And even during the day, be on alert. They have overhead ';tunnels'; connecting to the new center one, and Fisher Bldg. so you don%26#39;t have to go out, but just be careful.

When I was living in Detroit the St Regis was pretty fancey. I suppose after GM left the area business probably dropped. I understand today they have refurbished and have good prices too. It is not that far away

finnman,

When GM moved downtown, the St. Regis went through a rough patch. GM out of town employees and visitors with GM business now stay in downtown hotels.

The so-called New Center area isn%26#39;t very interesting for visitors during the day and--aside from times when the Fisher Theatre has performances--it is even less so at night (as well as being a little intimidating for pedestrians).

For visitors with cars, it isn%26#39;t an unsafe location and isn%26#39;t too far from downtown. The problem is that there now are better and more convenient hotels in Detroit, so the St. Regis has to compete a bit more on price than it used to; hence the lower room rates.

Well I went with the Hilton Garden Inn. Only a few bucks more and I know it is right by the stadium as I%26#39;ve been there before. Maybe I%26#39;ll try the St. Regis some other time. Thanks everyone!
