me and two buddies of mine are coming to Detroit for the auto show the 21st and 22nd of jan. we were wondering about where to stay that is affordable and in good proximity to Kovo, where i understand the show will be. i%26#39;ve never been to detroit and we talked about maybe staying at one of the casinos. anyone have any feedback on the rooms at the casinos and which ones are the best priced and most accomodating? thanks. we will be driving up from louisville, KY so transportation won%26#39;t be an issue.
International Auto Show
No lodging accomodations at any of the three casinos, Louisville. The Detroit Renaissance Marriott is only steps away from Cobo Hall, the site of the auto show. The Atheneum hotel is on the edge of Greektown, a short walk from Cobo, and only around the block from the Greektown Casino. The Ponchetrain Hotel is across the street from Cobo. The Ponch has gotten mixed reviews on tripadvisor travelers to Detroit. One caution, the casinos in Detroit are very ';blue collar';, not much glamour attached to any of the three. If you stay downtown, Windsor, Ontario is a short jump across the border and has a casino and hotel of its own. Terrific dining also.
International Auto Show
To clarify my previous message. Windsor, the city proper has many good to fine dining establishments. Restaurants in its Little Italy neighborhood are among the best of that type in Canada. Thai cuisine is also amply represented and good quality. If you%26#39;re interested in Pub Grub, be advised that you%26#39;ll compete with throngs of Michigan teenagers for a stool at the downtown bars. Ontario%26#39;s drinking age is lower than in Michigan.
I%26#39;m also going to be going up there from Kentucky the 21st-23rd. I%26#39;ve booked my room at the Marriot at the Ren. Center. You can take a ppl mover to the show right from inside the Ren. Center. They also have alot of dining possibliities inside so you would not have to leave if you didn%26#39;t want to. Of course I%26#39;m taking my wife so there%26#39;s more danger involved with me just walking around on the streets. As for myself I kind of want to stay away from the streets, having never been to Detroit before. Good luck! and safe driving

Hello, UK. You are statying in a relatively safe area of the city. Especially with the Auto Show traffic from opening to close. The nearest ';mean streets'; area of the city is the Cass Corridor. You won%26#39;t need to even consider approaching this location. But do visit Greektown and the Museum district. There is culture in Motown!
One of the best places to stay is at the Ren Cen - Marriott hotel. I doubt you%26#39;ll have much luck getting a room there for the Auto Show though they are usually booked quite far in advance for the show. I like the Hilton Garden Inn . It is right by Greektown and you can jump on the People Mover to go directly to Cobo Hall. I think it is about 50 cents each way. I stay at this hotel often and am very pleased. It is brand new and the staff is very friendly.
