I was wondering if anyone knew the best place to camp in South Haven? A lot of people are telling me to go to the Van Buren State Park, and also to stay very far from the SH/Covert KOA. Just wondering what everyone elses opinion was. I have been to South Haven hundreds of times, but have never camped. We always stayed at the Old Harbor Inn, Until the Guesthouse (Ramada) was built, then we have only stayed at the Hampton Since it was built, so I have not really had any chance to check out the campgrounds.
Thanks!

I%26#39;d personally go with the state park. It is a nice state park, some shade trees, the lots are varied, some more open than others, some with grass, some dirt..but it is a nice campground. Bathrooms are good, not perfect, of course. That KOA is fairly new I think, but have also heard some negatives about it. So, I%26#39;d stick with the state park, and then visit the KOA-and if you like it, you can return to it and camp during on of your visits to SH!

i%26#39;ll be watching replies to this topic as i just took up camping last year and would like to get in a couple of days up by my favorite city!!
I saw a couple of signs pointing toward bangor my last visit up--I wonder what kind of camping is thataway!!
here is a website that I used to check out campground reviews: http://rvparkreviews.com this list campgrounds all over the USA. Not only for rv people, but tent people too. It is a really great site. Like the hotels, but for campers :-). What I also like about this site, there is ushually a web button, that will link you to their campgrounds web page. Hope this helps,
Van Buren State Park would be my suggestion. We spend a week there every summer even though we live here in South Haven! tymetraveler222’s description is accurate, there’s pretty much a site for every preference. There’s also a day picnic area, volleyball court and horseshoe pit available.
I have not been out to the Covert KOA in many years, but it is very remote and have never heard anything good about it.
There is a new campground that has opened up in South Haven just recently. It’s located East of town, but I can’t find the info on it right now. UGH! I remember reading in the paper that in addition to having camping sites they also offer some camping cabins. I’ll see if I can’t locate the info and post it.
