Just a warning to people considering the Iroquois Inn, the rates they post on their website (and even the rates they give you on the confirmation page when you enter in your credit card number) don%26#39;t include the 6% sales tax and an 8% ';hotel surcharge';. So tack on an extra 14% to whatever their posted rates are.
Furthermore, they don%26#39;t give full refunds on cancellations over 2 weeks ahead of time and may not give a refund on cancellations under 2 weeks.
I just booked with them and feel a little duped by the extra 8%.
Iroquois Inn Hidden Hotel Surcharge
It%26#39;s hardly hidden. On the hotel%26#39;s page where it lists the various packages and rates, it says Michigan 6% sales tax and hotel surcharge of 8% are additional.
Iroquois Inn Hidden Hotel Surcharge
That is normal for hotels/inns on Mackinaw island and many other tourist areas. It shows on their website as do others. We stay at the Lakeview (last year and will again this year). They have the same hotel tax and 2 weeks cancellation notice. We have stayed other places with a hotel tax too.
All of the above is true. I have researched the Island hotels quite extensively in the last few days and all of them have the same exact tax, at least that is what I have come across. So, you gotta live with it if you want to come to the Island and stay. If not, go stay in Mackinaw City and take the ferry over for a day trip.
