Both of these places look like good choices to stay. Can anyone recommend one over the other - which would we best. We are two (';young';) seniors coming to Mackinac the end of May - TA shows the Lamplighter as the #1 choice but the Clearwater also gets excellent reviews. After reading the many other reviews on lodging it looks as though we should stay away from the chains. Thanks for any advice.
Clearwater Lakeshore or Lamplighter Motel
The Clarion also gets very good reviews - any comments on this property??? Rates appear to be very good
Clearwater Lakeshore or Lamplighter Motel
Lamplighter is in a quite residential area, about a block from the shore, 2 short blocks from downtown, 3 from the Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse %26amp; Shepler%26#39;s Ferry, and 4 from Fort Michilimackinac %26amp; the foot of the bridge. You could pretty much leave your car parked all the time.
Clearwater is on the water with good views of the Bridge and Island. But you will probably drive everywhere you go.
Most chains should be avoided. One exception is the Holiday Inn Express.
We stay in Mackinac City every year and for us a big part of the appeal is having a view of the lake and the bridge from our room. We love the Clearwater for that reason. You do need to drive to the shopping/eating area but there is plenty of parking.
You might try the Riviera as a compromise between the advantages of both.
I 2nd that Riviera Motel suggestion by Light!
What about the Hamilton Inn - rates look great at $59.00 per night
I am totally unfamiliar with the Hamilton grandmac, someone else will have to chime in on that one.
Hamilton looks nice, but it is owned by the family which has built up the reputation for deceptive and non-customer friendly practices.
