Just starting to plan a 4-5 day trip to Detroit in late Sept 2009, combining with a similar amount of time in Chicago.
We%26#39;re a 50+ couple, with a real interest in soul music from 60s onwards - hence this twin-location trip. But we want to do other stuff as well. So, a few questions....
What is weather generally like in late Sept?
Any recomendations re transport to/from Chicago?
As its Motowns 50th year, is anything special going on? Apart from visiting Hitsville, any other suggestions?
And what other activities/interests might be good? We like sightseeing, shopping, dining, etc
Any help very welcome.
Weather, music and so much more???
I didn%26#39;t realize you posted this on both forums. I answered under your Chicago post.

Weather is good late September. Be sure and bring a good mid-weight jacket though, in case of wind and/or rain. A lined raincoat would be a good idea and it would take care of both needs. Rarely hot in late September, but you can bring a couple pair of shorts if you want....and sandals. But most likely you will be wearing jeans or long pants, and tennis shoes.
City provided good ideas for you under your Chicago post. You might like to take a drive into Birmingham for some more unique, boutique type shopping-upscale.
You might also like to take a scenic drive up along the river towards Port Huron, there a couple little town along the way to have lunch in. You could also see where the river runs into Lake Huron and visit a lighthouse and/or beach up that way, if that interests you at all.
There is also a nice boat ride departing near the RenCen that covers a bit of the Detroit River.
Have fun!!
Where do you plan on staying in Detroit? There is the downtown area and there is the area in the suburbs? If you let us know where you%26#39;re staying then I%26#39;m sure we can make some great suggestions for you.
