Island Ferries receive mainenance in winter

I found this article in the St. Ignace News to be interesting: stignacenews.com/news/…052.html

Also a recent article said that the airport on the Island will have its runway redone. Probably in September and October of 2010. During that period, the Mackinac Island Airport will be unavailable.

The article said that during the construction, planes would have to land in St. Ignace or Mackinaw City. You would think the staff of the paper would know that there hasn%26#39;t been an airport in Mackinaw City since it was turined into a golf course many years ago.

Thanks for posting this info, Light. It was very interesting for me to read. I enjoy those kind of articles. Always want to know what goes on way up north during the winter! Thanks again for telling us about it.

Thanks LHL2! Good insight into what happens in the winter months. I had wondered if they had moved the boats or kept them there. I%26#39;m kind of surprised that the ice doesn%26#39;t pose a problem for the Star Line boats. Thanks.

I had read an article in the %26#39;Island News%26#39; about the airport and the desire to removed the %26#39;hump%26#39; from the runway that reduces pilot visibility. There was also other work to be done and there was concern of it costing considerably more than what they had originally budgeted.

Just noticed that Arnold Line resumes service to Mackinac Island on Tuesday, March 31. Spring has arrived!
