student coming to Holland

Hi,

I am a student from England coming to Holland in May for a month to visit Hope University. I was wondering what the weather would be like at that time of year and any other information that I might need to know?

Thank You.

Well, here in Michigan it can range from cold to hot in matter of hours.

Heck we have snow forecasted for tomorrow !

You%26#39;ll just have to pack a variety of clothes or buy them here as needed.

Hopefully May should be warming up into the 60%26#39;s or so.

I would agree with Greg and maybe even 70%26#39;s. I attended Hope in the late 70%26#39;s and one May term it was in the 90%26#39;s. Michigan can vary greatly.

And we got it !

A winter wonderland in the spring. : (

Hello Jennijayne,

Welcome to the Michigan Forum.

Last year in Holland, Michigan the average temperature for May was 55° F (12.8° C).

The average High temperature was 65° F (18.3° C).

The average Low temperature was 45° F (7.2° C).

I got this information from Weather Underground web site -

wunderground.com/history/…MonthlyHistory.html

Hope College is about 7 miles (11 km) East of Lake Michigan and that effects the weather to.

What people usually do is layer what they wear so they can adjust to the different weather during the day.

Wear a t-shirt, over that have on a shirt, then a light jacket or sweat shirt and then have a heavier jacket near by.

Michigan is a bit weird weather wise. You can be one place and the temperature is 77° F (25° C) and you travel for about 10 minutes and it might be 50° F (10° C). If you are traveling in a car and the weather is warm where you are, you should still take a jacket with you. Better to have something warmer to wear then not have it.

Lake Macatawa is near Hope College and this lake goes all the way from the college to Lake Michigan.

You are near some other nice bigger cities. A few are Saugatuck, 12 miles (19 km) away. Grand Rapids, 30 miles (48 km) away.

Just remember that you don%26#39;t have to pack all kinds of clothes, you can always buy a few things while you are here.
